Plans have been unveiled for a new community center located at 530 W Fullerton Parkway in Lincoln Park. Positioned just west of the intersection with N Clark Street, the center is slated to be built behind the Church of Our Savior, which currently occupies the streetfront.

Project Leadership and Design

The initiative is spearheaded by the local nonprofit Care for Friends, in collaboration with MKB Architects, who are tasked with the center's design.

Location and Context

Situated across from the former site of the Cenacle Convent, recently demolished for a residential development, the new center will repurpose the existing rear structure of the church. It will stand two stories tall, featuring an adjoining parking lot and direct alley access.

Facility Features

Drawing inspiration from their established center in Edgewater, which will remain operational, the new facility will undergo a transformation, with a brick exterior, redesigned entrance, and window placements. Inside, amenities include a shared kitchen, multiple meeting rooms, office spaces, and provisions for a healthcare clinic. Additionally, there will be a multi-use area for joint use with the church.

Regulatory Considerations and Approvals

The project necessitated a rezoning approval, secured earlier in the year, due in part to the addition of an ornamental fence along the site. Other exceptions were granted regarding setbacks and rear yard space.

Construction and Timeline

With regulatory hurdles cleared, the development is poised to commence construction soon, with an anticipated completion date set for Spring 2025.
