Michigan State Housing Authority Approves $53M for Trio of Affordable Housing Projects

The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Board has sanctioned $52.5 million in funding for three significant affordable housing projects in Detroit. This financial commitment aims to support some of the city's most vulnerable populations.

Significant Impact on Detroit’s Vulnerable Residents

Amy Hovey, CEO and Executive Director at MSHDA, highlighted the importance of these developments, emphasizing their role in providing quality affordable housing in collaboration with various partners. She stated that the approved projects would significantly benefit Detroit’s most in-need residents.

Higginbotham School Development

A major portion of the funding, $25 million, is allocated to the Higginbotham School project, a $36 million venture in a historic Detroit neighborhood. This development will feature the construction of two new three-story buildings and the rehabilitation of the existing school structure, resulting in a total of 100 housing units.

Peterboro Place Apartments Rehabilitation

The Board has also dedicated $14.7 million to the rehabilitation and preservation of Peterboro Place Apartments. This project will enhance the property to provide 70 permanent supportive housing units, including seven units specifically designed to be accessible for residents with disabilities.

Minock Park Place Development

Additionally, $12.8 million in loans has been approved for the development of Minock Park Place, a four-story, mixed-use complex for seniors. This $22 million project will offer 42 housing units, further expanding affordable housing options for Detroit's senior citizens.
