Plans have been unveiled for a new mixed-use development at 600 S Homan Avenue in Homan Square. The project aims to replace a long-time vacant lot situated at the intersection of W Harrison Street and adjacent to the Eisenhower/I-290.

Foundation for Homan Square

The Foundation for Homan Square, established in 1995, is the developer behind the proposal. Initially formed to oversee the redevelopment of the original Sears headquarters, the foundation has since ventured into independent projects.

Project Details

The proposed development, dubbed the ‘Homan-Harrison Gateway,’ will be three stories tall and approximately 40 feet in height. The building will house a financial empowerment community center, office space, and a cafe on the ground floor. The upper two floors will feature additional office space and co-working areas for local businesses. Amenities such as a rooftop deck, terraces, and a central courtyard will be accessible to users.

Facade and Construction

The exterior of the building will showcase a gradient of bright-red metal panels, akin to earlier phases of the project. Designed by JGMA, these phases comprised 21 residential units spread across three nearby sites. The development aims to commence construction soon and expects completion by spring 2026.
