FC Dallas Eyes Government Funding to Revamp MLS Stadium

While the Dallas Cowboys dominate the sports scene, FC Dallas, the city’s Major League Soccer (MLS) team, is determined to share the spotlight. As part of their efforts, the team is eyeing the opportunity to host the MLS All-Star game and is planning significant improvements to their home field, Toyota Stadium.

Major Stadium Renovations Planned

FC Dallas has filed a proposal with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for a $130 million renovation of Toyota Stadium. The project will involve expanding the stadium by 130,000 square feet, focusing on enhancing premium areas such as clubs and suites. Additionally, new broadcast and press facilities will be constructed to comply with MLS standards.

Potential Public Funding for the Project

To support these upgrades, FC Dallas is contemplating a request for $198 million in public funding. The Frisco Community Development Corporation (CDC) is set to hold a public hearing to determine whether the project qualifies for this financial assistance. If approved, the funding would be secured through bonds issued by the CDC, with repayment coming from sales tax revenue.
