Initial renderings have been unveiled for the renovation of the Logan Square CTA Blue Line station, situated at 2620 N Milwaukee Avenue. Located at the intersection with N Kedzie Avenue, just across from the renowned square, this multi-exit station is poised to undergo its first significant overhaul in its half-century history. The initiative is spearheaded by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) and the Chicago Department of Transportation, with design collaboration from local firm Jacobs Engineering.

As the central square gears up for a substantial reconstruction effort, the environs surrounding the station are also set to undergo a transformation. Part of Kedzie will be rerouted, redirecting it away from the existing bus loop. This shift will allow for the closure of a section of the current road, creating a novel pedestrian plaza named 'La Placita.' To complement this revitalization, the station house is slated to receive a new canopy, revamped entry points, and upgraded facilities.

Although the design remains in the refinement phase, preliminary renderings depict a sweeping, undulating canopy enveloping an expanded entry area replete with new access points. The plans also include provisions for a potential elevator lobby to enhance accessibility, modifications to the bus loop, and the introduction of new digital signage displaying arrival times. The centerpiece of this reconstruction effort will be a sizable skylight adorned with multicolored glass panels and lighting, promising to elevate the aesthetics of the station, which dates back to the 1970s.

The broader redevelopment of the square is poised to commence construction later this year, as reported by Block Club, having secured over $20 million in federal grants and Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds, following its announcement more than five years ago. Presently, neither the cost nor the timeline for the station's renovation has been disclosed, but the adjacent improvements are slated for completion by 2025.

The full project, including the Mayor's letter, all the detailed renderings, and history of the area have been published by the Chicago Government and can be accessed here
