Kanye West, now Ye, seeks to sell his minimalist Malibu mansion. Initially listed at a staggering $53 million, he has slashed the price by $14 million to $39 million in hopes of attracting buyers. The property's stripped 4,000-square-foot interior requires significant finishing work, adding to the cost.
Real Estate Investment Woes
Despite the price reduction, the venture is not favorable for Ye. Acquired for $57.25 million in 2021, it's a considerable loss considering the additional investment needed for completion.
The Architectural Marvel
Designed by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, the 2013 build is one of few private homes in the U.S. crafted by the Pritzker Prize winner. The compact 5,674-square-foot lot holds a structure of 1,200 tons of concrete and 200 tons of steel. Ando's signature minimalist style is evident in the sleek interiors and abundant natural light.
Market Assessment
Realtor Madison Hildebrand believes the price adjustment is a step in the right direction, considering Malibu's allure and Ando's reputation. However, the uniqueness of the property and its incomplete state make valuation subjective. Comparable homes in the area are either fully finished or offer more extensive features.
