Manhattan's Upper East Side to Welcome First Location
Whole Foods Market, the cherished grocery retailer, is introducing a new store format, "Whole Foods Market Daily Shop," to enhance the convenience of grocery shopping for urban consumers. The initial location is poised to open on Manhattan's Upper East Side, specifically at 1175 Third Avenue, later this year. This store will mark the debut of Whole Foods in Manhattan to feature "Juice & Java," offering coffee, tea, fresh pressed juices, smoothies, sandwiches, soups, and desserts.
Compact Format, Nationwide Expansion
Spanning between 7,000 to 14,000 square feet, these quick-shop stores are notably smaller, around a quarter to half the size of the average 40,000 square foot Whole Foods Market store. Positioned for expansion in densely populated metropolitan areas, the Daily Shop format is designed to cater to the fast-paced urban lifestyle. After the launch in New York City, Whole Foods plans to introduce this daily market concept to other cities across the country.
Convenient Offerings & Tailored Experience
Whole Foods Market Daily Shop will offer a convenient option for grab-and-go meals, snacks, weekly essentials, and quick ingredients for meals. Despite their smaller footprint, these stores will feature a selection of fresh produce, meat, seafood, sandwiches, pre-packed meals, bread, alcohol, supplements, and local specialties – ensuring that customers can access their favorites efficiently.
Strategic Growth and Customer Connection
Christina Minardi, Executive Vice President Growth & Development at Whole Foods Market & Amazon, expressed excitement about tailoring the new store formats to the unique needs of urban lifestyles. The expansion with Whole Foods Market Daily Shop aligns with the company's growth strategy, fostering stronger customer connections, and advancing its commitment to nourishing people and the planet. These new-format stores complement the traditional supermarket model rather than replacing it.
In 2023, Whole Foods Market demonstrated its dedication to the urban customer experience by adding its 17th store in New York City at One Wall Street. With over 530 stores in the U.S., U.K., and Canada and more than 75 stores in the pipeline, Whole Foods continues to evolve and adapt to the diverse preferences of its customer base.
