West Hollywood Community Housing Advances 73-Unit Long Beach Project

What The Project Will Include

Plans are moving forward for a new affordable housing development at 3401 Cerritos Avenue in Long Beach, where West Hollywood Community Housing Corp. is proposing a 73-unit residential complex. The project would replace the currently vacant site with a development consisting of two-, three- and five-story sections. The apartments would include one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom layouts, giving the project a mix of housing options for different household sizes. All of the apartments would be reserved as deed-restricted affordable housing, with the exception of a legally required manager's unit.

 

What The Development Will Look Like

Urban Architecture Lab is designing the project, which is planned around a residential courtyard and shared resident spaces. Amenities previously identified for the development include a community room, laundry facilities and fitness room. The plans also call for 86 parking spaces on the property. The draft environmental impact report is the latest step in the project's review and provides additional information as the proposal moves through the city's approval process.

What The Construction Timeline Looks Like

Once construction begins, the project is expected to take approximately 16 months to complete. The current environmental review does not mean construction is immediately underway. The project will still need to progress through the applicable planning and approval process before work can begin.

What The Project Means for Long Beach

The 3401 Cerritos Avenue development would add 73 income-restricted apartments to Long Beach's housing stock, with the entire residential component dedicated to affordable housing apart from the manager's unit. The project is also part of a broader expansion by West Hollywood Community Housing Corp. beyond its home city. The nonprofit has recently pursued affordable housing developments in Culver City and Los Angeles, in addition to its projects in West Hollywood.
