Last week, the Weingart Center and Chelsea Investment Corporation celebrated the completion of a major project: a high-rise in Downtown Los Angeles. This development, known as the Weingart Tower, is now the largest permanent supportive housing complex in the city’s history.

Features and Design

Located at 555 S. Crocker Street, adjacent to the Weingart Center’s main location, Weingart Tower is a 19-story building offering 278 studio and one-bedroom apartments. It also includes on-site services and amenities for residents. AXIS Architecture was the project’s architect of record, building on an entitlement design by Joseph Wong Design Associates. The tower boasts a contemporary aesthetic, large courtyards carved into its side, and a rooftop deck with views of the Downtown skyline.

Project Costs and Future Developments

The construction of Weingart Tower cost over $160 million. Despite its current status as the largest supportive housing development in Los Angeles, it won’t hold this title for long. The Weingart Center has already started building a 17-story tower at 600 S. San Pedro Street, which will provide 298 additional homes. Plans for a third building in the vicinity are also underway.
