Features of Plaza33

The plaza boasts mature trees, lush landscaping, stone benches, and vibrant chairs and tables. It serves as a beautiful, functional space that connects transit points, office buildings, and numerous new food and beverage outlets, enriching the local community experience.

Development and Design

Initially launched as a seasonal pilot program by Vornado and NYC DOT, Plaza33 has now been permanently established, thanks to the design efforts of Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects. The 34th Street Partnership has curated a variety of free public entertainment options for the plaza, including music, dance, and educational events.

Investment in the PENN District

Plaza33 is a key element of Vornado’s significant $2.7 billion investment in the PENN District, which also includes over $100 million in public realm enhancements. Renovations of PENN 1 and PENN 2, encompassing nearly 5 million square feet of office space, have been completed. Furthermore, Vornado and NYC DOT have collaborated to replace existing sidewalks with granite stone pavers and to widen the sidewalks along Seventh Avenue.

Remarks from the Mayor

New York City Mayor Eric Adams highlighted the project’s impact, emphasizing its role in the city’s economic recovery and its contribution to making New York City an even more attractive place to live and work. He described Plaza33 as a transformative project that provides dynamic public space and invigorates the already vibrant Midtown Manhattan.
