Turner Construction Company has been awarded a $41 million contract to construct a new Engineering Classroom and Research Building at Texas A&M University at Galveston. The project has been designed by the architecture firm Page.
Building Features and Purpose
The three-story structure will accommodate seven departments primarily focused on engineering. It will include various facilities such as administrative offices, conference spaces, and active learning areas to enhance engineering education. Additionally, it will provide research laboratory space for faculty-led initiatives, collaborative study areas, and a cutting-edge technology maker space for students to create and develop physical prototypes for their projects.
Company and Community Enthusiasm
Turner’s Andy Tandon expressed excitement about the project, emphasizing its potential to significantly improve engineering education at the university. He highlighted the company’s anticipation in partnering with Page and the local Galveston community to bring the innovative building to fruition.
Project Timeline and University Overview
The new 54,000-square-foot building is slated for completion in the fall of 2025. Texas A&M University at Galveston currently serves a student body of 2,300.
