What The Orchard Offers at 42-22 Orchard Street

The Orchard is showcasing its extensive amenity collection with new photography from its recently opened residential tower at 42-22 Orchard Street in Long Island City, Queens. Rising 70 stories and 823 feet, the tower is Queens' tallest building and contains 824 rental residences ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments. More than 100,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenities are spread throughout the property, creating spaces for fitness, recreation, work, entertainment and relaxation. The development occupies a full city block at the intersection of Orchard Street and Jackson Avenue, placing residents near the restaurants, retail, waterfront parks and transportation connections that have helped drive Long Island City's residential growth.

What The 60,000-Square-Foot Backyard Includes

The centerpiece of The Orchard's amenity program is a 60,000-square-foot private backyard designed by HMWhite. The outdoor space includes a resort-style swimming pool with cabanas, an apple orchard containing more than 15,000 plants and trees, three pickleball courts, a running track and a great lawn. Residents also have access to a yoga deck, outdoor movie screen, barbecue grills, fire pit, outdoor games, children's playground and fenced dog park. The scale of the outdoor space gives The Orchard something that is difficult to find in a New York City rental building: a large private landscaped environment where residents can exercise, entertain and spend time outdoors without leaving the property.

What The Fieldhouse Brings to Residents

Inside, The Fieldhouse focuses on fitness, recreation and wellness. The amenity collection includes a state-of-the-art fitness center with Technogym equipment, a boxing studio, Pilates and stretching areas, an indoor lap pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna. One of the most distinctive spaces is The Arena, a professional-grade indoor basketball court developed in collaboration with NBA skills trainer Chris Brickley. The court is equipped with a Bose sound system, Barco projection and advanced audiovisual technology. The design was created to provide a more immersive experience than a typical residential basketball court, while bringing Brickley's professional basketball background into the building's amenity program.

What The Commons Offers for Work and Entertainment

The Orchard's amenities extend beyond traditional fitness facilities. The Commons includes a full-size arcade, pingpong and billiards tables, screening and multimedia theaters with kitchenettes, coworking areas, work nooks and conference rooms. Residents also have access to a podcast studio and outdoor terrace, giving the space a combination of entertainment and work-focused uses. The variety of spaces reflects how luxury rental buildings are increasingly creating environments where residents can work, exercise, socialize and entertain without having to leave the property.

What The Sky Lounge Offers on the 70th Floor

At the top of the tower, The Sky Lounge occupies the 70th floor and offers residents panoramic views of New York City. The full-floor lounge features a bar, full-service kitchen and seating area centered around a custom fireplace. The space is designed as a more intimate setting for dining, relaxing or gathering with friends while taking advantage of The Orchard's height above Long Island City. The building's broader amenity program also includes rooftop and elevated outdoor spaces that take advantage of the tower's position within the Queens skyline.

What BLDG Management Wanted to Create

The extensive amenity program was designed around the changing expectations of New York renters, according to Lloyd Goldman, president and founder of BLDG Management Co. Inc.

“Long Island City has become one of the most dynamic markets in New York, and we’ve seen firsthand how the neighborhood continues to attract residents who want proximity to Manhattan without sacrificing space, design or amenities,” said Lloyd Goldman, President and Founder of BLDG Management Co. Inc. “At The Orchard, we set out to create an amenity collection unlike what's traditionally found in New York City rental buildings, one that supports every aspect of daily life, whether that's wellness, recreation, work or connection. From our 60,000-square-foot Backyard to our arcade and pro basketball court developed with Chris Brickley, the goal was to create a residential experience that feels as forward-thinking and dynamic as Long Island City itself.”

BLDG Management is a New York-based real estate investment and management company behind The Orchard and other residential properties.

What The Orchard Adds to Long Island City

The Orchard adds 824 new rental homes and one of the city's most extensive residential amenity packages to Long Island City. The combination of a 60,000-square-foot private backyard, indoor sports facilities, coworking spaces, entertainment areas and a 70th-floor lounge gives the project a scale more commonly associated with large residential developments in major global cities. With residences now available from studios through three-bedroom layouts, The Orchard is positioned to attract a broad range of renters while adding another major residential landmark to one of New York's fastest-growing neighborhoods.
