The Fontainebleau in Miami boasts a rich history, hosting notable figures ranging from presidents to mobsters and even serving as a backdrop for James Bond in Goldfinger. Notably, it was where the CIA plotted to assassinate Fidel Castro.

Underwhelming Expansion

The latest addition to the iconic hotel is a 45,000-square-foot convention center, accessed via a skybridge over Collins Avenue. Set to open in Q4, its architectural design is lackluster and uninspired. While it matches the hotel's interior decor, it lacks the flamboyance and intrigue synonymous with the Fontainebleau. Designed by Nichols Architects and Jeffrey Beers International, it falls short of the original Morris Lapidus-designed hotel.

Semantics of Naming

Dubbed the "Coastal Convention Center," it's ironic that reaching the coast requires crossing a busy street and navigating through the expansive hotel. This semantic choice may seem trivial, but it highlights the type of "correction" publicists often focus on.
