The Breakers Begins Major Expansion of Family Entertainment Center
  • The Breakers Palm Beach has started demolition work for a major expansion of its family entertainment center.
  • The project will increase the facility from approximately 12,100 square feet to 46,800 square feet.
  • The new entertainment complex is expected to open in spring 2028 as part of a broader resort redevelopment program.

During the Architectural Commission's July 23 meeting, members praised The Breakers' design team for the mosaic-detailed columns supporting the proposed Family Entertainment Center's loggia, a rendering of which is shown above.

What the Expansion Project Includes

The Breakers Palm Beach has officially begun construction on a major expansion of its family entertainment facilities following approval from local officials. The project will replace the resort’s existing 12,100-square-foot family center with a significantly larger 46,800-square-foot venue designed for resort guests and club members. Demolition work is already underway after Palm Beach officials issued permits for the project. Once completed, the new facility will offer a combination of indoor and outdoor attractions, casual dining venues, and interactive programming aimed at families and resort visitors.

Coastal-inspired detailing can be seen throughout the Breakers proposed Family Entertainment Center, including a playground area modeled after the yacht of the resort's founder, Henry Flager. A rendering of the playground is seen here.

What the Resort Is Adding Beyond the Entertainment Center

The entertainment center expansion is only one part of a larger modernization effort taking place across the historic oceanfront property. The Breakers recently received approval to replace its central surface parking lot with an underground parking garage and a smaller surface lot. The resort is also renovating its Mediterranean Courtyard, including the addition of a glass conservatory, restored architectural features, and updated landscaping. These projects represent the latest phase of a long-term revitalization strategy designed to enhance guest experiences while preserving the property's historic character.

One of the few gripes the commission had with The Breakers planned Family Entertainment Center was the cast stone surround proposed for the building's entrance, a rendering of which is shown here.

What This Means for Palm Beach Hospitality

The investment reflects continued confidence in Palm Beach's luxury hospitality market, where high-end resorts are increasingly expanding amenities to attract both visitors and private club members. Rather than focusing solely on accommodations, luxury resorts are investing more heavily in experiential offerings, dining, wellness, recreation, and entertainment spaces that encourage longer stays and increased guest spending. For The Breakers, the expansion strengthens its position as one of Florida’s most iconic luxury destinations while helping it compete with newer resort developments across South Florida.

What the Resort Is Doing Beyond Palm Beach

The Breakers has also expanded its real estate activity outside its main resort campus. The company has acquired multiple sites in West Palm Beach to develop workforce housing for employees. Recent purchases have helped assemble land for an approved eight-story apartment project that will provide 155 housing units for resort staff. The workforce housing initiative reflects a growing trend among large hospitality employers seeking housing solutions for employees in high-cost markets.

What the Project Could Mean for The Breakers

When completed in 2028, the expanded entertainment center will become one of the largest family-oriented amenity spaces at the resort. Combined with ongoing renovations and workforce housing investments, the project highlights The Breakers’ continued commitment to long-term growth while preserving its status as one of Florida’s most recognized luxury hospitality properties.
