Temple Israel Looks to Redevelop 1.6 Acre Parking Lot Near Wynwood

Greater Miami’s Temple Israel is exploring the possibility of redeveloping its 1.6-acre overflow parking lot. Founded in 1922, the Temple has been occupying its current position since 1928.

What’s been done so far: The synagogue has requested that the Miami Planning and Zoning Appeals Board rezone the property addressed at 1852 Northeast Second Avenue for "general commercial" use. This classification would let the owners explore their options, since it allows condos, apartments, offices, hotels, and retail buildings.

What could be next: If the rezoning request is approved, Temple Israel could receive advantageous offers from developers. Nevertheless, the synagogue has not yet made any decisions about what to do with the property.

Location, location, location: This potential development site is located near other planned mixed-use projects in the Arts & Entertainment District, Edgewater, and Wynwood. Religious organizations across South Florida are selling off developable land to builders, as they are under financial pressure and no longer need all of their land.
