What Makes Takay Different
Takay is bringing an elevated omakase experience to Coral Way with a dining concept centered around just 10 seats. Named after the Japanese word "takai," meaning "elevated," the restaurant aims to deliver a chef-driven tasting experience where every course is selected by the chefs. Guests can expect a traditional omakase experience that emphasizes seasonal ingredients, craftsmanship, and personal interaction between the chefs and diners.
What the Restaurant's Design Includes
The 800-square-foot restaurant was designed by Japan-based architecture firm KTX and blends contemporary luxury with traditional Japanese design. Guests enter through a Zen garden before reaching the intimate sushi counter, where an installation made from native Japanese Hinoki wood serves as the room's centerpiece. The design was inspired by Katsushika Hokusai's iconic artwork, The Great Wave Off Kanagawa. Additional Hinoki wood finishes appear throughout the sushi counter, shelving, and latticework, while Shoji-style rice paper wall panels complete the minimalist aesthetic.
What the Founders Say About the Experience
Chef Glen Kotlyarski brings experience from the Jean-Georges Group and Michelin-starred omakase restaurant Hiden in Wynwood. Together with partner Yoni Matz, the team designed Takay to deliver a highly personalized dining experience.
Kotlyarski said the goal is to "exceed our guests' expectations at every seating," reflecting the restaurant's focus on hospitality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
What This Opening Means for Miami's Hospitality Market
Takay adds another upscale dining destination to Miami's growing hospitality scene. Boutique concepts with limited seating continue to attract diners seeking exclusive culinary experiences, while Coral Way is becoming home to more chef-driven restaurants that elevate the neighborhood's food and beverage offerings.
