The Los Angeles City Planning Commission has shown its support for the redevelopment plan of Studio City's iconic Sportsmen's Lodge hotel, paving the way for the Residences at Sportsmen's Lodge. The ambitious project involves demolishing the existing 1960s-era hotel and giving rise to a modern 520-unit apartment complex, accompanied by 46,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space and restaurants, catering to a dynamic mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units.

Midwood Investment & Development, the project's developer, aims to include 78 units designated as very low-income affordable housing, granting them access to density bonus incentives for taller buildings and increased floor area. Marmol Radziner, MVE + Partners, and landscape architecture firm Olin have joined forces to design the complex, drawing inspiration from Mid-century Modern design to pay homage to the hotel's original era.

The development will not only enrich the community with residential options but also provide approximately 21,000 square feet of publicly accessible open space, including landscaped courtyards and a new pedestrian path linking Ventura Boulevard to the nearby Los Angeles River.

This multifaceted undertaking is expected to take 43 months for completion, with the construction scheduled to conclude in 2027, as indicated in the City of Los Angeles' environmental study. The Residences at Sportsmen's Lodge will further enhance the adjacent Shops at Sportsmen's Lodge, a vibrant 94,000-square-foot retail center housing an Erewhon store.

Notably, this project stands out as a rare instance of multifamily construction in Studio City, where residential developments have been scarce over the past three decades. The Ventura-Cahuenga Boulevard Corridor Specific Plan's Studio City segment has seen little to no residential construction since its inception more than 30 years ago.

The redevelopment of the Sportsmen's Lodge hotel holds great promise for Studio City, offering new housing choices, exciting commercial spaces, and public amenities, making a significant contribution to the neighborhood's growth and development.
