Construction is underway for 89 Dekalb Avenue, a 30-story mixed-use building in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Designed by Perkins Eastman and developed by RXR, the project promises to significantly alter the neighborhood's skyline.

Development Details

The building will rise 348 feet high and encompass 289,000 square feet of space. It will feature 324 rental apartments, including 98 rent-stabilized units. Additionally, the project includes 55,000 square feet of academic space for Long Island University, amenities spanning nearly 15,000 square feet, and an enclosed parking garage equipped with electric vehicle charging stations.

Construction Progress

Excavation and foundation work started earlier this year, and the concrete superstructure is now visibly taking shape above street level. A tower crane assists in the assembly process, with safety netting recently installed around the upper floors. The building's stepped setbacks are becoming more pronounced as construction progresses, with completion expected by December 2025.

Architectural Features

Renderings showcase a modern design characterized by reflective glass curtain walls with slender black mullions. The southern facade features landscaped terraces atop stepped setbacks, culminating in a distinctive gray mechanical bulkhead.

Location and Amenities

Situated at the corner of Dekalb Avenue and Ashland Place, the site offers proximity to the Dekalb Avenue subway station, providing easy access to the B, Q, and R trains. Residential amenities will include a 24-hour concierge service, coworking spaces, and fitness facilities.

Conclusion

89 Dekalb Avenue represents a significant addition to Fort Greene's skyline, blending residential and academic spaces with modern architectural aesthetics and convenient urban living amenities.
