Robert Friedland, a prominent mining tycoon and former mentor to Steve Jobs, has been making waves in Santa Barbara's high-end real estate market. Five months ago, Friedland acquired an oceanfront estate on Carpinteria's prestigious Padaro Lane for around $47 million. Now, he has made another significant purchase - a Montecito compound previously owned by Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, for a hefty $32 million.

Friedland's Recent Acquisition

The Montecito compound, known as Pompeiian Court, sits on 8 acres of meticulously maintained grounds and boasts a classic Roman courtyard design. The property includes a main house, two guesthouses, a poolside cabana, and an art studio. Surrounded by formal gardens, ancient trees, and a chardonnay vineyard, the compound offers privacy and luxury. Despite not being oceanfront like his previous purchase, Friedland's latest acquisition showcases his interest in Santa Barbara's elite real estate market.

Ellen DeGeneres' Property Makeover

Ellen DeGeneres and her team undertook a complete makeover of the Montecito compound, transforming it into a trendy and minimalist retreat. Although DeGeneres initially sought $46.5 million for the property, she settled for $32 million - still a considerable profit from the $10 million she paid less than a year prior.

Other Properties Owned

Apart from his two recent acquisitions in Santa Barbara, Friedland owns two Beverly Hills estates, Zsa Zsa Gabor's former Bel Air property, a luxury flat in Singapore, and an oceanfront home in Thailand. Meanwhile, DeGeneres and de Rossi retain multiple properties in the Santa Barbara area, including a blufftop estate in Carpinteria and several smaller homes in Montecito.

Robert Friedland's real estate investments in Santa Barbara reflect his penchant for luxurious properties, while Ellen DeGeneres continues to be involved in the region's high-end real estate market despite selling her Montecito compound. Both individuals remain influential figures in the realm of luxury real estate in Santa Barbara.
