Renderings have been revealed for a new charter school planned at 556 New Lots Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn. The project is being developed by Bermuda Realty and designed by IMC Architecture. The proposed building will rise six stories and reach approximately 105 feet in height.

What the project will deliver

The 49,385 square foot structure will dedicate roughly 46,066 square feet to educational use, accommodating up to 500 students. Plans also include 3,318 square feet of commercial space along with a cellar level. The building will replace an existing one-story commercial structure at the intersection of New Lots and Van Siclen Avenues.

Design and architectural features

Renderings show a steel-framed structure with a fifth-floor setback wrapping around the northwest corner. The façade will be clad in beige brick and organized around a grid of windows framed with black metal and spandrels. The primary entrance will sit along New Lots Avenue beneath a canopy topped with planted greenery. Additional features include façade lighting, tree-lined sidewalks surrounding the site, and a green roof with two mechanical bulkheads.

Timeline and project cost

The development is estimated to cost approximately $18 million. While a construction timeline has not yet been announced, the site sits near the New York City Subway 3 train at the nearby Van Siclen Avenue station, providing direct transit access for students and staff.
