Gilbane Development Company has announced the groundbreaking of Pique, a purpose-built student housing project in Berkeley, California. Located at 2587 Telegraph Avenue, this eight-story residential development will replace the former Buffalo Exchange store, bringing new vitality to the Telegraph Downtown Corridor.
Scheduled for completion in summer 2026, Pique will feature 52 residential units with 485 beds, catering specifically to UC Berkeley students. The project also incorporates 2,900 square feet of ground-floor retail space, further enhancing the bustling area. Designed with affordability and quality in mind, it offers Class A Premium Student Housing (PBSH) that balances innovation, functionality, and privacy.
Pique’s design prioritizes efficiency and mental well-being, featuring an unprecedented 100% balcony access across all units. With bedroom-to-bathroom parity, bed-to-vanity parity, and split bathrooms, students will experience enhanced privacy and convenience. Larger units are equipped with dual washer/dryer sets and additional storage to accommodate group living dynamics.
Residents will enjoy an array of luxury amenities tailored to the student lifestyle. Highlights include:
Each unit boasts modern features such as stainless steel appliances, stone countertops, flat-screen TVs, and functional furniture. Security is enhanced through key fob access, and communal connections are fostered with a third-floor Community Terrace designed for social engagement.
Pique aims to address the growing demand for student housing while fostering a strong sense of community. Katy Moore, Director of Leasing at Gilbane Development, emphasized the project's role in enhancing Berkeley’s vibrancy and creating spaces that support students’ academic, social, and emotional well-being.
As UC Berkeley, ranked the top public university in the U.S., grapples with a shortage of on-campus housing, Pique represents a crucial step toward alleviating this issue. Gilbane Development Company’s investment in the project reflects a broader commitment to creating environments where students can thrive academically and socially, ensuring their success and well-being.
