Habitat for Humanity is making a significant impact on St. Petersburg's affordable housing landscape with an ambitious plan to construct 64 homes in the area. One of the largest developments in this endeavor is "Pelican Cove," a project that encompasses 44 units distributed among multiple three-story townhomes. These townhomes boast living spaces ranging from 1,000 to 1,300 square feet each, ensuring ample room for families and individuals alike.

Diverse Housing Options

The diversity of options at Pelican Cove is remarkable, with layout plans spanning from two-bedroom to four-bedroom designs. This diversity allows for various family sizes and needs to be accommodated within the community. Situated on a 2.1-acre lot formerly owned by the City, construction for Pelican Cove is set to commence in 2024 and conclude the following year. This development is poised to make a substantial contribution to addressing the city's affordable housing shortage.

Expanding the Horizon

However, Pelican Cove is just one piece of a larger puzzle that Habitat for Humanity is assembling. Two other communities, Shell Dash and the Grove, are also part of this grand plan. Each of these communities will provide 10 residences, further expanding the availability of affordable housing in St. Petersburg.

The Grove, one of these communities, will feature three-story townhome units, and each home will encompass approximately 1,224 square feet. These townhomes come with the added convenience of garages and in-unit washer/dryer setups. Construction for the Grove is scheduled to kick off on December 1, 2024, and is expected to be completed by July 1, 2026, providing more housing options for the city's residents.

A Beacon of Hope

In sum, Habitat for Humanity's plan to create 64 affordable residences in St. Petersburg, FL, is a testament to the organization's dedication to providing housing solutions for those in need. These developments, including Pelican Cove, the Grove, and Shell Dash, serve as beacons of hope for the city's growing affordable housing crisis, offering not just homes but also the promise of a brighter future for many St. Petersburg residents.
