A new residential development is being planned at 754 West Belden Avenue, bringing fully accessible housing to Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood. Led by Over The Rainbow, the project focuses on providing supportive living environments for adults with physical disabilities. The proposal adds a specialized housing component to an area with a limited accessible residential supply.
The five-story building will include 30 one-bedroom units designed with accessibility as a core feature. Plans incorporate barrier-free layouts, roll-in showers, wide turning radii, and automatic doors. Designed by Weese Langley Weese, the project also includes shared community spaces such as a lounge, patio, and support areas.
The development will not include on-site parking, instead prioritizing communal and support-oriented spaces. Most units will be designated as affordable, aligning with the organization’s mission to provide accessible housing options. This type of project addresses a specific and often underserved segment of the housing market.
The proposal highlights the growing importance of inclusive housing solutions in urban markets. Nonprofit-led developments are playing a key role in addressing gaps in accessibility and affordability. For stakeholders, it reinforces that specialized housing projects are becoming an essential component of long-term urban development strategies.
