The Sun Sentinel has unveiled new renderings for a people mover system and an elevated light rail system in Broward County. These developments aim to enhance transportation infrastructure and connectivity in the area.

Elevated Light Rail System

A significant project in the works is an elevated light rail system, which will span 3.5 miles in its initial phase. This first phase will connect the intermodal center at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport to the Broward County Convention Center and Port Everglades. There are future plans to extend this line to Sawgrass Mills, one of the largest shopping destinations in the area. The first phase of the light rail system is scheduled for completion in 2028.

Fort Lauderdale Airport People Mover

In addition to the light rail, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will see the introduction of a 2.1-mile people mover system. This system will facilitate movement between the intermodal center and various parts of the airport, improving passenger convenience and transit efficiency. The people mover is expected to be operational by 2030.

Brightline Integration

The intermodal center at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport may also host a Brightline stop, further integrating the region's transportation network. This stop would connect passengers to the elevated light rail system, the people mover, and other transit options, making it a key hub for travel within and beyond Broward County.
