Moon Thai Group Plans to Develop a Three-Story Restaurant in Wynwood

South Florida's beloved restaurant chain, Moon Thai & Japanese, is venturing into the real estate development sector. The company recently submitted plans to construct a three-story restaurant in Wynwood, a vibrant neighborhood in Miami. This move marks a potential new direction for the company, which has been a staple in the local dining scene for over two decades.

Details of the Proposed Development

The proposed restaurant will be situated on a quarter-acre site at 82 NW 28th Street, near the northern edge of Wynwood. The location is strategically placed across the street from Related Group's Wynwood 29 and Lennar's Wynwood Green residential developments. The restaurant will accommodate 350 seats, distributed across the ground, third, and fourth floors, as well as the rooftop. The plans for the second floor remain undisclosed.

No Parking, No Problem

Interestingly, the building will not include a parking lot. This is because Miami's zoning regulations do not require parking for parcels less than 20,000 square feet. Despite this, the restaurant plans to operate every day until 2 a.m., catering to Wynwood's lively nightlife.

A New Chapter for Moon Thai Group

The Coral Gables-based chain acquired the parcel for the proposed development for $6 million in 2021. This move comes after the company's previous proposal for a five-story restaurant in September. Moon Thai Group, known for its affordable pad thai and tuna sushi rolls, has expanded to eight locations in South Florida and one in Charlotte, NC since its inception 23 years ago.

Next Steps for the Project

The Wynwood Design Review Committee is set to review the proposal on Tuesday. It remains unclear whether this project signifies the group's first venture into real estate development. The company has yet to comment on the matter.
