Miami Beach is taking steps to breathe new life into its historic Art Deco hotels. A new program aims to restore these iconic properties with fresh pastel-themed exteriors, celebrating the vibrant and timeless aesthetic of the Art Deco era.
To support this effort, the city is offering matching grants of up to $20,000 per property. These grants are designed to help historic hotels fund exterior renovations that align with the distinctive pastel palette synonymous with Art Deco design. The program has a total budget of $88,000, which will be allocated to at least four properties.
This initiative is a partnership with renowned British designer Barbara Hulanicki, who brings her creative vision to the project. Together, they aim to preserve the architectural legacy of South Beach while giving it a contemporary refresh.
The program focuses on properties located along Ocean Drive, Collins Avenue, or Washington Avenue, within the area stretching from Fifth to 23rd Street. By targeting these historic hotels, the city seeks to enhance the character of one of its most iconic neighborhoods.
With this initiative, Miami Beach hopes to strike a balance between cultural preservation and modern revitalization. The pastel transformations aim to attract both tourists and locals, ensuring that the city’s historic charm continues to shine.
