Lehman College has officially completed its first-ever student housing development with the opening of The Lehman Grand at 2530 Grand Concourse in the Bronx. The adaptive reuse project transformed a historic office building into a modern student residence while preserving many of the property's original architectural features. The 10-story building offers 184 beds across 73 dormitory units, totaling approximately 50,000 square feet. The property is leased by the City University of New York (CUNY) on behalf of Lehman College and is located between East 192nd Street and East Fordham Road.

What Makes the Historic Building Unique

The building carries decades of architectural history. Originally designed by Adolf L. Muller of Halsey, McCormack & Helmer, construction took place in phases between 1932 and 1952, beginning as a branch bank before expanding into a larger office building with a distinctive 50-foot clock tower. Its Art Deco exterior features polished Texas pink granite, red brick, and decorative terra cotta, all of which were carefully preserved during the redevelopment. The property was designated a New York City landmark in 1994 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2024, making the renovation a notable example of historic preservation combined with adaptive reuse.

The Lehman Grand was designed to provide students with a comfortable living experience while keeping them connected to campus. The residence includes 58 furnished rooms with private bathrooms, two standalone apartments, free Wi-Fi, study rooms, game rooms, a shared kitchen, on-site laundry facilities, coworking space, and a third-floor resident lounge. Students will also benefit from a free campus shuttle, access to Citi Bike, discounts at the Fine Fare supermarket located on the ground floor, and optional monthly overnight parking.
