LeFrak, the renowned Jersey City developer, has not only converted a central plaza within Newport City into temporary pickleball courts, accessible to the entire community at no cost, but they have also announced plans to construct permanent pickleball courts in the neighborhood due to the enthusiastic response to the temporary setup.
The reason why: LeFrak, recognizing the growing popularity of pickleball nationwide, identified an opportunity to enhance the usability of Newport's Elephant Park plaza, which is home to the beloved Newport Skates outdoor ice rink during the winter months, for Newport residents and visitors during the warmer seasons.
The pickleball courts have become a tremendous hit with the local community. Offered on a first-come, first-served basis and free of charge, they have become a bustling center of activity on summer evenings.
LeFrak's officials view this transformation of the space as a testament to their enduring commitment to the Newport community. At a time when many developers grapple with how to revitalize spaces into places where people genuinely want to spend their time, LeFrak stands out for its willingness to embrace change and reconsider its initial plans.
