The construction of a new commercial building at 111-115 North 6th Street in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, has reached a significant milestone. This two-story structure, designed by Building Studio Architects and developed by L3 Capital, will serve as a new retail space for the French brand Hermès. The development, located at the corner of North 6th Street and Berry Street, spans 8,500 square feet.
Architectural Design
The exterior design of the building features red brick cladding with a section of the western end finished in gray cementitious material. Large, recessed windows, mostly without mullions, dominate the fenestration. The building will have 147 feet of street frontage, with substantial space allocated across its levels: 4,850 square feet on the first level with 16-foot-high ceilings, 3,600 square feet on the second level with the same ceiling height, and 3,120 square feet in the cellar.
Current Temporary Location
Hermès currently operates a temporary 5,400-square-foot pop-up location at 91 North 6th Street. Designed by Kenneth Park Architects, this space has been in use since early 2023 and will remain open until the new retail space is completed.
Construction Progress
As of the latest update, the steel superstructure of the new building has been fully erected, and framing with metal studs and green insulation boards is underway. The southern elevation is covered with scaffolding and construction netting, and a sidewalk shed is in place.
Accessibility
The property is conveniently located near the Bedford Avenue station of the L train and the North Williamsburg ferry terminal at the northwestern end of North 6th Street along the East River.
Anticipated Completion
The new retail space at 111-115 North 6th Street is expected to be completed in the winter of 2024, although some reports have suggested the opening might be delayed until 2026.
