Extell debuts Kimpton Era Midtown New York

Developer Gary Barnett, founder and chairman of Extell Development Company, has opened Kimpton Era Midtown New York, a 33-story ground-up hotel in Midtown Manhattan. The property marks the latest Manhattan addition to the Kimpton brand and is the first hotel managed by Extell Hospitality Services, Extell’s in-house hospitality platform.

What the hotel delivers to the market

Kimpton Era includes 529 guestrooms within a purpose-built high-rise designed to blend contemporary hospitality with classic New York architectural cues. The guest experience begins with a ground-floor self-service check-in, followed by a primary lobby and reception area on the third floor known as The Parlor. Interiors emphasize muted floral palettes, soft neutral tones, warm wood finishes, and fluted detailing intended to create a calm, residential atmosphere within a dense urban setting. Architecture is led by SLCE Architects, with interior design by INC Architecture & Design.

Food and beverage concepts anchor the hospitality program

The hotel’s dining and nightlife offerings are operated by Apicii, which curated multiple food and beverage venues throughout the property. Concepts include The Parlor, which hosts the brand’s signature social hour, and Bar Rocco, an Italian American brasserie from Rocco DiSpirito. Additional venues include Amasa, a forthcoming Latin steakhouse, and Jade Rabbit, a rooftop Asian izakaya scheduled to open in April.

What does the opening signal for Extell’s hospitality expansion

The launch reinforces Extell’s strategy to expand beyond residential supertalls into large-scale hospitality assets through its internal management arm. By delivering a purpose-built, design-forward hotel in Midtown, the firm strengthens its position in New York’s competitive hospitality market while expanding operational control across development and management.
