In a significant transaction, the iconic Boston Park Plaza hotel has found new ownership and a fresh identity as it becomes a Hilton-branded establishment. The hotel, boasting a rich history, has transitioned from Sunstone Hotel Investors to Parks Hospitality Holdings for a staggering $370 million, marking an exciting chapter in its legacy.
The New Hilton Boston Park Plaza
Under the new ownership, the iconic hotel is now known as the Hilton Boston Park Plaza, as reported by the Boston Business Journal. This rebranding initiative breathes new life into the renowned property, offering guests a premium hospitality experience in the heart of Boston.
A Grand Transformation
The hotel, with its impressive stature, encompasses 1,060 rooms and a sprawling 760,000 square feet of space, making it the third-largest hotel in the state. It follows closely behind the 1,220-room Sheraton Boston Hotel and the 1,147-room Boston Marriott Copley Place. This transformation signifies the second U.S. hotel venture for Parks Hospitality Holdings, which also owns a Hyatt hotel in Colorado.
Shifting Brand Identities
The rebranding of the Boston Park Plaza as a Hilton property comes in the wake of another notable hotel in the city, which departed from the Hilton brand in August. The Hilton Boston Downtown/Faneuil Hall underwent a transformation, emerging as The Dagny Boston, following a remarkable $39 million renovation by the owner, DiamondRock Hospitality Co.
A History of Investment
The journey of the Boston Park Plaza dates back to 2013 when Sunstone acquired the property from Rockpoint Group for $250 million. Over the years, this real estate investment trust (REIT) embarked on a $95 million renovation project, breathing new life into the historic hotel and aligning it with modern standards.
Creating Value and Attracting Attention
Bryan Giglia, CEO of Sunstone, expressed the company's commitment to enhancing the hotel and leveraging the value it brings to the dynamic Boston lodging market. He emphasized their dedication to the city through ownership of the Marriott Boston Long Wharf.
This exciting transformation of the Boston Park Plaza into the Hilton Boston Park Plaza promises to offer guests a blend of tradition and modernity, and it is set to become a cornerstone of Boston's hospitality scene.
