Frisco Station's $1.8 Billion Project to Feature Pickleball Venue

Frisco Station, a 242-acre, $1.8 billion mixed-use development in Frisco, Texas, is adding a pickleball destination and golf course simulators to its lineup of amenities.

The project: The new venue, called Pickle and Social, will be developed by Competitive Social Ventures and is set to open in spring 2024. It will feature both indoor and outdoor pickleball courts, as well as golf course simulators, a restaurant, and a pub. Frisco Station broke ground in 2016 and is a project by VanTrust Real Estate and Hillwood, and landowner Rudman Partnership.

“Frisco has its first premier venue for pickleball, the fastest-growing sport in the world, and the space is the perfect place to host prestigious pickleball tournaments in the future,” said Trey Sibley, general manager of The Rudman Partnership, which is developing Frisco Station.

The first of many: The Frisco location is the first such combined project for Competitive Social Ventures, which is also opening facilities in Houston; Scottsdale, Arizona; Louisville, Kentucky; Tampa, Florida; Atlanta; and Greenville, South Carolina. The Frisco venue will also have multiple entertainment options including cornhole, beach volleyball, and ping pong.

Why pickleball: The addition of Pickle and Social to Frisco Station is a sign of the growing popularity of pickleball in the Dallas area. The sport, which is a combination of badminton, tennis, and table tennis, has seen its participation rates skyrocket in recent years. In 2021, there were an estimated 4.8 million pickleball players in the United States, up from just 2.8 million in 2019.

The popularity of pickleball is being driven by a number of factors, including its relatively easy learning curve, its low impact on the body, and its social nature. Pickleball can be played by people of all ages and skill levels, and it is a great way to get exercise and meet new people.
