East Village's Changing Landscape: Six Buildings Marked for Demolition

An East Village block is poised for change, as a significant demolition is taking shape. Developer Kinsmen Property Group has submitted plans for the demolition of six buildings spanning the stretch from 50 to 64 Third Ave. on the west side, extending between East 10th and East 11th streets. 

Making Way for the Future

The filing of this demolition plans an evolution of this East Village block. The walk-up buildings, ranging from 3 to 5 stories, have been under the ownership of Kinsmen Property Group since 2018, with the last acquisition completed in May of this year. The collective investment, amounting to $66.7 million, speaks to the developer's strategic vision for this space.

Past Tenants

Thee soon-to-be-demolished buildings were constructed around 1900, and they haven't had a tenant since 2021, according to Streeteasy. Some of their most recent tenants included The Ainsworth sports bar and the New York Central Art Supply Shop. The changing commercial tenants of the area have seen many of these establishments shuttered, with a shift towards new concepts. 

Future Possibilities

With the demolition plans now filed, the future of this stretch of Third Ave. hangs in the air. While Kinsmen Property Group's founder and CEO, Ari Zagdanski, is leading this transformation, but the exact intentions for the site remain undisclosed. As the East Village continues to evolve, this project joins the tapestry of developments shaping the new face of the neighborhood.
