The Miami Building Department has issued a demolition permit for one of the buildings on the Edgewater site where the 60-story Hamilton House is planned. Five adjacent two-story multifamily properties with a combined 22 units are planned to be demolished, under five separate total demolition permits.

What’s happened so far: The demolition permit for the first building was issued on September 11, and the demolition permit for the second building was approved on September 12. The remaining three demolition permits are still in review. A construction permit for the new tower is also still in review.

The new project: The Hamilton House is planned to rise 60 stories or 649 feet, with 241 apartments and a 3,500 square foot restaurant. The developer is Aimco.

The reason: The demolition of the existing buildings is a necessary first step in the construction of the Hamilton House. The buildings are old and outdated, and they would need to be demolished in order to make way for the new tower. The demolition is expected to take several months.

The Hamilton House is a major development for the Edgewater neighborhood. The tower will add much-needed housing and amenities to the area. The restaurant will also be a welcome addition to the neighborhood's dining scene.

What’s next: Once the demolition is complete, the construction of the Hamilton House can begin. The construction is expected to take two years. The Hamilton House is expected to be completed in 2025.

The demolition of the existing buildings and the construction of the Hamilton House are significant projects that will have a major impact on the Edgewater neighborhood. The projects are expected to create hundreds of jobs and boost the local economy.
