Foundation work has commenced for a 12-story mixed-use building located at 1730 S Wabash Avenue in the South Loop area. Replacing a former parking lot, the development will encompass 110 apartment units along with an 80-car garage spanning the first and second floors. Additionally, the building will feature ground-floor commercial retail space.

Multiple Projects in the Works

This new project by CMK Companies is part of a trio of developments underway within the same block. Alongside the 12-story structure, CMK Companies has plans for a nine-story building at 1700 S Wabash and another 12-story building at 1630 S Wabash.

Architectural Details and Renderings

Pappageorge Haymes is the designated architect of record for the project. While no drawings or renderings have been disclosed at this time, the involvement of Pappageorge Haymes suggests a commitment to high-quality design and architectural innovation.

Transportation Access

Residents of the new building will benefit from convenient access to various transportation options. Bus routes 1, 3, 4, 12, 29, and 62 are all within walking distance. Furthermore, those utilizing the CTA Green Line can reach the Cermak-McCormick Place station with an 11-minute walk south. The Cermak-Chinatown station on the Red Line is a 12-minute walk southwest, while the Roosevelt station on the Orange Line is accessible within a 15-minute walk north.

Construction Details and Costs

Brandts Build LLC is serving as the general contractor for the construction project. Permits issued thus far indicate an aggregate cost nearing $18 million. However, a specific completion timeline has not yet been announced.
