What has happened so far: The majority of the aging, low-rise structures, which were not designated as landmarks and fall outside the Greenwich Village Historic District, have already been dismantled. Among them was the iconic Romanesque Revival structure at 523-527 Sixth Avenue that once anchored the corner. Additionally, the interiors of the George C. Flint & Co. building at 104-106 West 14th Street have been completely gutted. However, its distinctive cast iron facade still stands, shielded by scaffolding and construction netting at the northern edge of the site.
An educated guess: As of now, there has been no official announcement regarding the design or the architect for this project. Nevertheless, given the substantial size of this property consolidation, it is conceivable that it will give rise to a mixed-use development, encompassing both residential and commercial spaces, akin to projects such as ODA's 101 West 14th Street and Morris Adjmi Architects' FÖRENA, both of which have recently completed construction nearby.
