Miami’s dining scene continues to grow with the much-anticipated arrival of La Cañita in Kendall. Spearheaded by renowned Chef Michelle Bernstein, this flagship restaurant will bring the bold flavors of Latin America and the Caribbean to The Palms at Town & Country plaza. The restaurant is set to open in February of this year and promises a dynamic mix of vibrant cuisine, cocktails, and atmosphere.
A Taste of the Tropics
La Cañita, which translates to "little sugarcane" in Spanish, embodies the essence of tropical culinary traditions. The menu, crafted by Chef Bernstein, will showcase a variety of dishes that pay homage to the vibrant cultures of Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, Puerto Rico, and beyond. Diners can anticipate a selection of croquetas and empanadas, oxtail lasagna, trifungo with shrimp, lechón asado with steamed yuca and crunchy pork belly, and locally caught snapper with ginger mojo de ajo and toasted coconut rice.

A Collaborative Effort
The expansion into Kendall is a collaborative venture between Chef Bernstein and industry veterans David Martinez, Davide Borgia, and Orestes Pajon. The team aims to create a spirited dining experience featuring bold flavors, an extensive drink menu, and a vibrant ambiance. The bar program will highlight crafted cocktails such as the classic Mojito made with four-year Flor de Caña rum, the Presidente, and the Brownie Old Fashioned.
Location and Design
Situated at 8405 Mills Drive, Suite 203, the 5,434 square-foot restaurant will accommodate nearly 180 guests across its al fresco patio, spacious dining room, private dining area, and bar. The design, curated by Chef Bernstein's sister, Nicolette Bernstein, in collaboration with Locus Architecture, will evoke the look and feel of an island-kissed rum distillery, enhancing the overall dining experience.
