There's a new addition to the Brooklyn skyline! The two-building residential complex at 218 Front Street in Vinegar Hill has reached a significant construction milestone. This project, a collaboration between S. Wieder Architect and Chess Builders, is set to redefine the neighborhood with its unique design and commitment to affordable housing.
Previously home to an industrial warehouse and an open-air lumber yard, the 218 Front Street site now houses a seven-story, two-building residential complex. The project will offer 218 rental apartments, including 66 affordable housing units. Additionally, it will provide 350 square feet of commercial space and 180 square feet of community space on the ground floor.
As of our last update in July, the northern building was halfway complete, and its counterpart was just beginning to rise. However, both structures have now reached their full height. The next phase involves the installation of light-gray brick facades and floor-to-ceiling windows. Work on the exterior is expected to continue through the fall and into next year.
The buildings' design features a mix of full-width and subdivided windows up to the fifth floor. The sixth floor will incorporate more extensive use of glass and will feature a series of terraces offering residents stunning views of the East River and the Midtown skyline. The ground floor will feature a double-height entryway with large glass panels framed with thick gold borders.
While the full list of residential amenities is yet to be announced, on-site parking is a possibility, indicated by a ground-floor garage door. The complex is conveniently located near the F train at the York Street station, providing easy access to the rest of the city.
According to site notes, the anticipated completion date for 218 Front Street is December 2024. This project is set to bring a fresh wave of residential and commercial opportunities to Vinegar Hill, contributing to Brooklyn's ongoing growth and development.
