Jayson Tatum has become a key figure for the Boston Celtics, leading the team to their second NBA final in three seasons. The 26-year-old, a five-time NBA all-star, has been with the Celtics since he was drafted third overall at just 19 years old. Despite his early success and a substantial first contract worth $30 million, Tatum waited two years before purchasing his first home.

Purchasing a Home in West Newton

In 2019, Tatum bought two parcels of land in West Newton, Massachusetts, for $4 million. Although he could earn over $300 million with his next Celtics contract, he is unlikely to buy another house soon. Tatum, who had a challenging childhood with a single mother, maintains a close relationship with her. His mother, an attorney, manages his finances and has taught him to be a careful spender, saving his NBA earnings and living off his endorsement deals.

The Historic Home in West Newton

Tatum's residence in West Newton, bought in 2019, is a historic house built in 1848 and located in the West Newton Webster Park Historic District. The property spans almost half an acre and features two parcels. The Gothic Revival home is notable for its twin Gothic gables, central dormer, and white façade, with a porch and French windows.

Interior Features of Tatum's Home

Though Tatum has kept the interior of his home private, pre-sale listings describe a four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom home with high ceilings, ample windows, and recessed lighting. The open floor plan on the first floor includes a kitchen with all-white cabinetry, dark plank flooring, and a large island. The living area features built-in bookshelves and a modern fireplace. Upstairs, each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, and the primary suite includes a fireplace, dual walk-in closets, and a luxurious bathroom. The home also has a finished basement.

Adding a Basketball Hoop

During the 2020 pandemic, Tatum mentioned in a conference call the difficulty of not having a basketball court at home. Celtics majority owner Wycliffe Grousbeck responded by arranging for a hoop to be installed in Tatum's yard, helping him maintain his practice routine.
