What BJ’s Wholesale Club Is Planning in Tyler
BJ’s Wholesale Club is expanding its Texas presence with plans for a new membership warehouse club in Tyler. The location follows the retailer's entry into the Dallas-Fort Worth market earlier this year and a previously announced club in Mesquite. The Tyler project marks another step in the company's effort to establish a larger presence across Texas. BJ's own announcement did not include a specific address, store size or opening date, but local permitting records point to a site at 8667 S. Broadway Ave., in the new Parkside Development across from The Village at Cumberland Park, where the club is reportedly already under construction.
What The New Club Will Bring to Tyler
The new BJ's is expected to create approximately 100 to 150 jobs in the Tyler area. The club model combines a large-format physical store with grocery, household and consumer merchandise offerings. Members can shop for fresh food and produce, deli and bakery items, household essentials, pet supplies, electronics, apparel, toys and seasonal products. BJ's also supports several digital shopping options, including curbside and in-club pickup and same-day delivery.
What BJ’s Says About Its Texas Expansion
Bill Werner, executive vice president of strategy and development at BJ's Wholesale Club, said the company has received a strong response since entering the Texas market.
"Value is the foundation of our company. We're thrilled by the enthusiasm we've seen from members in Texas and look forward to taking care of families in Tyler and the surrounding communities."
The Tyler location is part of a larger pipeline that includes planned clubs in Foley, Alabama; Frankfort, Kentucky; Mesquite, Texas; Ocala, Lecanto and Port St. Lucie, Florida; and Portage, Indiana.
What The Membership Model Includes
BJ's physical clubs are supported by several shopping and fulfillment options. Members can use ExpressPay through the BJ's mobile app, allowing them to scan merchandise while shopping and skip a traditional checkout line. The company also offers same-day delivery, which it says can deliver groceries and other products in as little as two hours. Some locations also include BJ's Gas stations, giving members access to discounted fuel and additional savings through the company's Fuel Saver Program.
What The Expansion Means for BJ's
BJ's has grown to 267 clubs and 206 BJ's Gas locations across 22 states. The retailer's expansion strategy calls for opening 25 to 30 new locations every two years, requiring continued investment in physical stores, distribution, staffing and digital fulfillment infrastructure. The Tyler project will add another local workforce to support the company's expansion, with employee training and development forming part of BJ's approach to opening new clubs.
What The Texas Growth Could Mean
Texas is still a relatively new market for BJ's, making the Tyler and Mesquite projects important steps beyond its initial Dallas-Fort Worth launch. The additional locations give the retailer a path to build a broader Texas network while extending its membership, grocery, fuel and digital fulfillment services to more communities. For Tyler, the project would bring a major national warehouse retailer and up to 150 new jobs, while giving local consumers another membership-based shopping option.
