The Plantation City Council granted final approval for Related Group and BH Group to develop a mixed-use complex on the former AT&T campus at 8601 West Sunrise Boulevard. The project, named Plantation City Center, received a 6-1 vote in favor, along with six zoning waivers, including reduced parking requirements and permission for an eight-story building in an area where the maximum height is typically five stories. The approvals passed without significant discussion during the council meeting.
Plantation City Center will be a mixed-use development spanning 13.7 acres, featuring 512 residential units and 24,970 square feet of retail space. Designed by Miami-based Arquitectonica, the site will include a blend of townhomes, multifamily buildings, and retail structures. Specific elements include 14 two-story townhouses, five three-story apartment buildings, two standalone retail buildings, and an eight-story apartment building with retail on the ground floor. The project will also incorporate a 399-space parking garage.
As part of the approval process, the developers committed to 51 workforce housing units, designated for individuals earning up to 120 percent of the area’s median income. In Broward County, the median household income is $70,331. The apartments will range in size from 600 to 1,300 square feet and offer studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom options.
Last year, Related and BH Group acquired the site for $13 million, including the former AT&T training center, which they plan to demolish to make way for the new project. Related Group, led by Jorge Pérez and his sons Jon Paul and Nick Pérez, is collaborating with BH Group, headed by Liat and Isaac Toledano, on this and other ventures throughout South Florida.
Beyond Plantation City Center, the partnership between Related and BH extends to other significant developments. In Pompano Beach, the duo is behind the W Pompano Beach Hotel & Residences, a 24-story, 373-unit condo-hotel project. Meanwhile, in Fort Lauderdale, they are redeveloping The Quay at 17th Street, a 7-acre site acquired for $48.5 million, into a mixed-use property with residential units, retail, and restaurants.
The approval of Plantation City Center represents a key step in transforming the former AT&T campus into a vibrant mixed-use community, showcasing the developers’ commitment to innovative design and affordable housing. The project also highlights Related and BH’s expanding footprint in South Florida’s real estate landscape.
