New renderings and exciting details have emerged regarding the ongoing transformation of the Ramova Theater, situated at 3518 S Halsted Street in Bridgeport. After more than four years of planning and breaking ground in 2021, this remarkable project is nearing completion. Spearheaded by Baum Revisions, in partnership with Our Revival Chicago, the restoration of this once-beloved theater, a sister to the North Side's renowned Music Box, has been long-awaited. The theater originally opened its doors in 1929 and played a vital role in the local community until its closure in 1985. Now, after extensive restoration efforts, the Ramova Theater is set to reopen, offering a new experience to its audience, complete with a small brewery and more.
A Culinary Revival at Ramova Grill
One of the highlights of the redevelopment is the resurrection of the Ramova Grill, with a fresh take on some of its original dishes. Led by Kevin Hickey and Brandon Phillips from the nearby Duck Inn, this 20-seat restaurant will cater to late-night dining for venue-goers. Alongside the restaurant, a small brewery and taproom operated by New York-based Other Half Brewing will feature an impressive 80 tap lines, with 20 dedicated to the taproom. This brewery will exclusively serve patrons of the Ramova Theater, ensuring a unique and local experience. The adjacent alley to the south of the building is being transformed into a beer garden, further enhancing the entertainment options for visitors.
A Stunning Performance Space
Beyond the culinary delights, the Ramova Theater redevelopment includes a brand-new 1,500-person performance space. The interior design recreates the ambiance of a small Spanish village, complete with a celestial-themed dark sky overhead. With new restrooms, bars, and a central stage, this space promises to provide an enchanting backdrop for various events. The adjacent entry lobby is also undergoing restoration to recapture its original charm. Furthermore, the exterior facade of the building is receiving an extensive facelift, with the preservation of its iconic marquee sign, giving it a fresh lease on life.
An Ambitious Project on the Horizon
Designed by O'Riley Office and executed by McHugh Construction, this $30 million project is making significant strides towards completion, with an anticipated finish by the end of this year. The Ramova Theater's revival represents an exciting addition to Bridgeport's cultural and culinary landscape, breathing new life into a cherished neighborhood icon.
