Bally's Corporation has started the demolition of the old Chicago Tribune printing plant at 777 W. Chicago Avenue, making way for a new casino development. This marks the first step in the transformation of the 30-acre site, where the Bally’s Chicago Casino will rise.

Redesigned Casino and Hotel Development

Recently, Bally’s unveiled updated plans for the casino, returning to a single-phase construction for a 34-story, 500-room hotel tower. The hotel, designed by HKS Architects, will be located near Ohio Street along the Chicago River and will feature various amenities, including a rooftop restaurant, pool, spa, fitness center, and sun deck, all offering views of the Chicago skyline.

Project Features and Amenities

The new Bally’s Chicago Casino development will take full advantage of its urban riverfront location. The complex will include not just the hotel, but also a 3,000-seat theater, six restaurants, cafes, a food hall, and a 2-acre public park. The casino itself will offer approximately 3,300 slot machines, 173 table games, and VIP gaming areas. Additionally, a 2,000-foot extension of the riverwalk will connect the lower riverbank to the property.

Financing and Strategic Partnerships

To finance this ambitious project, Bally's has partnered with Gaming and Leisure Properties, Inc. (GLPI). GLPI is providing a $940 million construction funding facility as part of a broader $2.07 billion funding agreement with Bally's. This partnership is essential for completing the casino and hotel tower.

Construction Timeline and Progress

On July 5, Bally's took control of the former Tribune Publishing site, with Brandenburg Industrial Service Company handling the demolition work. The project is expected to be completed and open to the public by September 2026.
