  • Bakey, the Boston-based bakery known for its signature babka, has opened its first South Florida location in Hallandale Beach.
  • The bakery was founded by Amir Vadashchef and renowned baker Uri Scheft, creator of Lehamim Bakery in Tel Aviv and Breads Bakery in New York City.
  • The Hallandale Beach café is the first of several planned South Florida locations, with additional stores expected in Fort Lauderdale and Aventura.

What the New Bakery Offers

Bakey has officially expanded to South Florida with the opening of its newest bakery and café at the former Kosher Bagel Cove location on West Hallandale Beach Boulevard. The Hallandale Beach outpost welcomed its first customers on July 14 and marks the company's first Florida location. Known for its handcrafted breads and pastries, Bakey has built a devoted following in Boston thanks to its fresh-baked approach and signature babka. The Hallandale Beach bakery follows the same concept, producing baked goods throughout the day under its "the oven is always on" philosophy rather than relying on a single morning bake.

What Is on the Menu

The bakery's signature chocolate babka remains the centerpiece of the menu alongside an almond babka made with German marzipan. Guests will also find croissants, rugelach, cheese sticks, burekas, naturally fermented sourdough breads, challah, sandwiches, salads, and all-day breakfast offerings. Honoring the building's history as a neighborhood bagel shop, the new location also serves New York-style kosher bagels made fresh in-house. Every item is prepared throughout the day, ensuring guests receive freshly baked breads and pastries from morning through evening. The café features seating for approximately 50 guests indoors and 70 guests outdoors, with a bright, modern design accented by natural greenery. Like its predecessor, the Hallandale Beach location is kosher.

What Makes Bakey Different

Bakey was founded by Amir Vadashchef and acclaimed baker Uri Scheft, whose influence extends well beyond Boston. Scheft is the founder of Lehamim Bakery in Tel Aviv and Breads Bakery in New York City, where his chocolate babka has become one of the city's most celebrated pastries. He is also the author of the James Beard Award-nominated cookbook Breaking Breads, which helped popularize artisan bread baking and traditional Jewish pastries among home bakers across the United States.

What This Means for South Florida

Bakey's arrival reflects the continued growth of South Florida's specialty food and bakery scene, as nationally recognized culinary brands increasingly expand into the region to serve its growing population and international customer base. The Hallandale Beach opening is only the beginning of the company's Florida expansion. Bakey has already announced plans to open additional locations in Fort Lauderdale and Aventura, further establishing its presence across South Florida and bringing one of New England's best-known bakeries to a broader audience.
