Amazon has announced a significant investment of $122 million into 10 affordable housing projects across Washington State's Puget Sound area. The initiative is part of the $2 billion Amazon Housing Equity Fund, aimed at financing the construction or preservation of around 1,700 apartments in Seattle, Bellevue, and Kirkland.

Long-Term Affordability and Total Investment

The funds are dedicated to maintaining long-term affordability for 99 years for all residences included in the plan. This latest commitment brings Amazon's total investment in the region to $670 million, sustaining more than 7,200 affordable units.

Collaboration with Local Developers

Amazon is collaborating with nine local organizations to realize these housing projects. Partnerships include working with TWG for the Ardea at Totem Lake project, catering to seniors. Another notable collaboration is with The Low Income Housing Institute for the MLK Family Housing, which will also feature an early learning center.

Specific Projects and Communities

Amazon's involvement extends to projects like Atrium Court Apartments and Trace 4001 in Seattle's Othello neighborhood, managed by Nitze-Stagen. These communities target households earning between 50 and 80 percent of the area median income. Additionally, existing communities managed by nonprofits like SouthEast Effective Development will receive investments to preserve their affordable status.

Extensive Commitments and Partnerships

Beyond these partnerships, Amazon is teaming up with companies such as SRM Development, Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle, Great Expectations LLC, Johnson & Carr, and Bode Affordable Living to further its affordable housing initiatives. The Amazon Housing Equity Fund aims to deliver a total of 20,000 affordable units, complemented by a $100 million commitment to construct the largest family shelter in Washington State, in partnership with Mary's Place.

Previous Engagements and Future Plans

This initiative builds upon Amazon's previous investments in the region, collaborating with organizations like BRIDGE Housing, Sound Transit, and Mercy Housing Northwest. The company's dedication to addressing housing affordability challenges in the Puget Sound area underscores its commitment to the local community.
