5 CRE Firms Among the Top S&P 500 Cos. Driving the Most Revenue with Least Number of Employees

Five Commercial Real Estate firms have made it among the top S&P 500 companies that drive the most amount of revenue with the least amount of employees. These companies have a revenue per employee that goes from $5.3 million to a whopping $10.3 million. The top 12 ranking is completed by five energy companies, a financial firm and the healthcare company Moderna, the one behind the COVID-19 vaccine of the same name. 

Which CRE firms made the list: The fifth on this list was taken by Healthpeak properties, with a revenue per employee of $8.2 million. This firm also invests in properties related to the health care industry, including senior housing, life science, and medical offices. In the overall ranking, this firm is on the 62nd spot. 

In fourth came Ventas, Inc. a real estate investment trust that invests in the ownership and management of health care facilities in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Its revenue per employee is of $8.2  million, and the firm occupies the 41st position in the composite ranking.

The third spot on the list belongs to Realty Income, with a revenue per employee of $8.3 million. This firm invests in single-tenant commercial properties in the United States, the United Kingdom and Spain. It occupies the 65th position in the overall ranking.

Host Hotels & Resort came in second place with a revenue per employee of $9.4 million. This firm specializes in hotels, and as of 2021, it owned 80 upscale hotels in the United States, Brazil and Canada. This company owns some very well-known names in the hospitality industry, such as Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, Hyatt and Four Seasons.

Finally, the list was headed by Welltower, Inc. With an enterprise value of $50 billion and a revenue per employee of $10.3 million, Welltower is the world's largest healthcare real estate investment trust. In the overall S&P 500 composite, it occupies the 46th position.

What firms complete the list: Besides the aforementioned CRE firms and Moderna, the top 13 is completed by Valero Energy ($9 million per employee), Everest Re Group ($6.3 million), Pioneer Natural Resources ($6 million), Phillips 66 ($5.6 million), Devon Energy ($5.6 million) and Diamondback Energy ($5.6 million).
