Brightline West, a transportation company, has commenced construction on what it describes as the United States' first genuine high-speed rail network. The system, with an estimated cost of $12 billion, will span 218 miles, connecting Las Vegas to Southern California.

Vision and Design

This initiative aligns with Brightline's objective of facilitating travel between city pairs that are too distant to drive yet too short for air travel. The rail line will be built along the median of Interstate 15.

Support and Funding

During the groundbreaking ceremony, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg expressed enthusiasm for the project, asserting that high-speed rail in America, long a dream, is finally becoming a reality. The endeavor has secured $3 billion in funding from President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, with the remainder to be sourced from private investment.

Route and Stops

Brightline West forecasts a travel time of two hours between Las Vegas and key locations in Southern California's Inland Empire. Stops along the route will include Rancho Cucamonga, which will offer commuter rail connections to Los Angeles, as well as Apple Valley and Hesperia.
