About
Coleman Land Company was founded in St. Charles on June 1st, 1940 by Leslie P. Coleman and his two sons, James L. Coleman and Charles Coleman. Leslie Coleman had been in real estate continuously since 1920, and from 1921 to 1931 his firm, Coleman Brothers, was located on LaSalle Street in Chicago. From 1931 to 1940 (during the Great Depression) he operated his real estate business from his home in Wayne, Illinois. Leslie chose Coleman Land Company as the name of the firm because the term "Land" meant not only the earth (surface, sub-surface, and air) but all things attached to it by nature or man. Coleman Land Company's first location was on Main Street in downtown St. Charles, right above the then St. Charles National Bank Building. In 1952, the company was moved to a downtown store front location at 217 West Main Street until 1985 when they purchased their present corner location at 703 Main Street.
