Construction has reached its peak on 280 East Houston Street, a 12-story residential development situated in Manhattan's East Village.

Design and Development Details

Crafted by Hill West Architects and spearheaded by SMA Equities, the building boasts a total area of 224,809 square feet. It will offer 157 apartments, averaging 1,324 square feet each, alongside 12,000 square feet dedicated to ground-floor retail space and 1,300 square feet designated for community use. Positioned on a distinctive trapezoidal lot between Avenue A and Avenue B, the project stands as an upcoming landmark in the area. The project's interior designer is Whitehall Interiors.

Progress Snapshot

Recent imagery showcases the final stages of construction, with concrete being poured to complete the 12th and final floor. Meanwhile, exterior framing using metal studs and insulation boards is underway, laying the groundwork for the installation of the façade and window grid. Scaffolding and construction netting envelop the southern profile, signaling active work on the building's exterior.

Architectural Features

The architectural rendering highlights the building's aesthetics, particularly its wide southern frontage facing East Houston Street, predominantly adorned in red brick. Transitioning beyond the eighth floor, the façade integrates expansive stretches of floor-to-ceiling glass, notably on the eastern section, accented by black metal paneling. Noteworthy features include a setback at the ninth story, allowing for expansive terraces, and a roof space potentially designated for outdoor amenities. A mechanical bulkhead on the western side completes the structure's design.

Location and Accessibility

The property benefits from its proximity to the F train, accessible via the nearby 2nd Avenue station to the west.

Anticipated Completion

With an anticipated completion date set for February 2025, as indicated on-site, 280 East Houston Street is poised to transform the neighborhood skyline and enhance the local community upon its unveiling.
