- Rick Caruso unveiled new renderings of Miramar Lake Club, a private golf and social club scheduled to open this fall at 341 Williamsburg Way, Thousand Oaks, California.
- The property will feature an 18-hole, par-3 golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus and an 18,000-square-foot clubhouse.
- Planned amenities include a resort-style pool, fitness and training facilities, tennis courts, wellness offerings and a signature restaurant.
- Formerly known as Sherwood Lake Club, the property is being repositioned as a high-end hospitality and social destination.
What Miramar Lake Club Will Bring to the Sherwood Community
Miramar Lake Club is taking shape behind the gates of the Sherwood community near Thousand Oaks in the Santa Monica Mountains. The waterfront property is designed to combine golf, dining, wellness and social programming in a private club setting. The property was previously known as Sherwood Lake Club and changed hands earlier this year following the death of former owner David H. Murdock. After acquiring the club, Caruso and his team began updating its architecture and amenities as part of the transition to the Miramar Lake Club brand. Caruso said the opportunity came together quickly because of his familiarity with Murdock and the quality of the existing development.
“The whole development behind the gates out there, it’s really one of a kind,” Caruso said. “To own part of that with our own club, I thought it was an opportunity that we couldn’t pass up.”
The newly released renderings show a classically styled clubhouse, outdoor dining areas, landscaped gathering spaces, lake views and upgraded interiors. The club shares its name with Caruso’s Rosewood Miramar Beach resort in Montecito.
What Makes the Golf Course Different
At the center of the property is an 18-hole, par-3 golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus. The layout is described as one of only two of its kind in the world and the only one in the United States. The course is intended to welcome beginners while providing a more detailed playing experience for seasoned golfers. The investment also comes as interest in golf continues to grow, with participation increasing by more than 50% over the past decade, according to Caruso.
“The Miramar Lake Club is our vision for where golf is heading; more welcoming, more dynamic, and deeply rooted in experience,” Caruso said.
What Members Will Find Beyond Golf
Miramar Lake Club is being developed as more than a golf destination. Members will have access to an 18,000-square-foot clubhouse designed to serve as the center of the property’s dining, entertainment and social offerings. Additional amenities will include a resort-style swimming pool, state-of-the-art fitness and golf training facilities, tennis courts and wellness spaces. The club will also offer a culinary program and a signature restaurant led by an award-winning chef whose identity has not yet been announced. A regular calendar of member events is planned to encourage social connections beyond the golf course. Caruso envisions the property as a year-round gathering place where members can dine, exercise, attend events and spend time with family and friends.
“This is an opportunity to bring a new level of hospitality, design, and community to the game, creating a destination unlike anything that exists today,” Caruso said.
What the Project Means for Caruso’s Hospitality Portfolio
The project expands Caruso’s presence in private hospitality. The developer is best known for major Southern California retail and mixed-use destinations, including The Grove, The Americana at Brand and The Commons at Calabasas. Miramar Lake Club builds on the hospitality approach established at Rosewood Miramar Beach while introducing that experience to the private club market. Its combination of golf, dining, wellness and social programming is intended to create a destination centered on both recreation and community. The club is expected to open this fall.
